Our Story
Because Christian education contributes directly to the advancement of God's kingdom, it is the privilege not only of the parents but also of their Christian communities to undergird, pray for, work for, and support Christian family-based education.
-Bylaws, Article II, Christian Family Learning Center (1991)
Over thirty years ago, a group of parents felt the need for a Christian education community in the heart of Gold Country in Angels Camp, CA. These families prayerfully stepped out in faith to try a "one year experiment" to see where God would lead it. The Christian Family Learning Center (CFLC) was an association formed in 1991, a 501(c)(3) association. For 28 years, that "one year experiment" included kindergarten through 8th grade.
In 2017, the Board of Directors and leadership felt God leading CFLC to establish a high school. In the meantime, the leadership had been learning more about classical education and felt that was the model they wanted to incorporate into the program. In 2018, this was another "one year experiment," as they were unsure what demand there would be for a classical Christian high school in the area. Because of this, the high school, although sharing the same campus, was started almost as a separate entity and named "Libertas Academy." As it was rolled out, there was a warm reception from the community for this classical Christian education high school program. By 2019, the school leadership knew the high school was going to be a permanent addition to the school, and that they wanted to incorporate the classical education model all the way down to TK, under the name "Libertas Academy, A Christian Family Learning Center." Specialists in classical education joined the Libertas Academy team and helped it fully transition to a united TK-12th grade classical Christian school.

While there have been changes throughout the years as the school grew and evolved, our foundation remains the same: that "God by His Holy Word reveals Himself; renews man's understanding of God, of man himself, of his fellowman, and of the world; directs man in all his relationships and activities; and therefore guides His people also in the education of their children." (Bylaws, Article II, Christian Family Learning Center, 1991).
At Libertas Academy, we recognize that parents are ultimately responsible for the education of their children according to Bible. We are honored to partner alongside parents in this responsibility to "train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6).
Our Name
Libertas (latin) n: "liberty" and "freedom"

Our name, Libertas Academy, is not only a description of "how" we deliver the services we provide (classical, Christian education), but the "why," as well; true liberty is found in salvation through Jesus Christ.
You will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.
