Latin

Purpose

  • Instruct vocabulary and grammar to increase their understanding of the English Language.  This is best done through learning Latin and not through English grammar.

  • Teach Latin as a means to understanding how languages work.

  • Cultivate minds through the study of Latin which prepares students for further development in computer programming, languages, music and logical thinking.

  • Use Latin as a base language for further theological studies in original writings.

Courses

  • Latin I
  • Latin II

Spanish

Purpose

  • Spanish is an increasingly common language for those living in California.  Learning Spanish can be an important skill for job positions and overall communication with our neighbors.

  • Spanish is a romantic language, which means it is a descendant from Latin.  After the study of Latin, the important roots of words manifest themselves in Spanish. Thereby it is a natural language to learn following Latin.

"The great remedy for ignorance . . . is knowledge of languages. And men who speak the Latin tongue, of whom are those I have undertaken to instruct, need two other languages for the knowledge of Scripture, Hebrew and Greek, that they may have recourse to the original texts if the endless diversity of the Latin translators throw them into doubt."  -Saint Augustine
