On a Personal Note

As we near the end of summer, I am reflecting on these long months, grateful for the work of preparing for the school year.  Being the Principal at Libertas Academy is a blessing in many ways and I am immensely thankful for my role, in guiding and directing our school.

I am the Principal to all of the students, but there is an even greater role I hold – I am Mom to one of them.  I deeply care for each and every Libertas student, from the littlest TKer to the tallest 12th grader, but there is one student in particular that influences me considerably.  He’s a tall, 7th grader that shares my last name.

You see, because my son goes to our school, every decision I make matters that much more to me.  That is why hiring takes so long – I want just the right teachers for my son and also for yours.  That is why the school calendar is so intentionally crafted – I want a rigorous school year where every day matters.  That is why curriculum is so carefully vetted – I want only the best for my kids and for yours.  That is why athletics and art and music are such a high priority – I want a full, robust education for my son and for your daughter.

My two daughters, older than their brother by a few years, both graduated from our high school.  As they move through their early adult years, I am confident they received the best education possible here at Libertas Academy.  A Classical, Christian education for them was worth the expense and effort.   As a Principal, that matters to me.  As a Mom, that means the world to me.

So, I’m not just an administrator sitting in an office.  I’m a parent just like you – wanting the best for my child.  Praying fervently for his friends, his school year, his future.   And down the hall and up the parking lot from me, are teachers and staff who feel the same way.  Their children, too, are here at the school.

And so, I along with the staff and our Education Council and our Board and our many volunteers, look eagerly forward to a great school year.  We are all willing to the hard work because my son matters.  Your daughter matters.  Your grandson matters.  Every student at our school matters in every decision we make.

As we prepare to start a new school year, thank you for doing the hard work of choosing not just what is good for your child, but what is best.  All of them, yours and mine, are worth it.
