Timeless Education

Have you ever had “decision fatigue”?   Parents often experience this psychological phenomenon as they weigh all of the education choices that are available for their children.  Public school, private school, homeschool, co-ops, and online school are just a few of the many options available to families.   Identifying what might be the best approach to education can be very overwhelming.

And that’s exactly how I felt when I first heard about Classical, Christian education almost 15 years ago.  As a proud graduate of private and public schools, I didn’t see any need for something that appeared to be just another educational trend.  What I soon learned, though, especially as I began doing it, is that classical education is not a trend.  Organizations and companies may have come up with beautiful packaging and podcasts to market and discuss Classical education, but it is an approach to education that has been in existence for thousands of years.

Classical, Christian education is a timeless approach that says that kids (and adults!) learn best when they move through different stages of learning.  It is an approach that moves students from learning what to think and teaches them how to think.  It is an approach that takes us from the concrete and the philosophical.  It is an approach that uses quality literature and great books to learn, rather than the trivial resources offered to us in a short-attention-span, Instagram society.

In the desire to understand and explore Classical, Christian Education, I want to welcome you to Libertas Reflections.  This is where we will take all of the richness and beauty that is found in a Classical, Christian approach and discuss it.  We will discuss the practical, nitty-gritty elements of Classical education, while also exploring the bigger meaning behind things we study and teach as dedicated educators and involved parents.  We will explore the vastness and richness that is Classical, Christian education, through this blog in the weeks and months to come.

If you’re making up your mind about what educational approach to choose for your children, trust me, you won’t find a shallow approach that is simplistic and trendy here.   Instead, you will soon discover the timeless truth, beauty, and goodness that is Classical, Christian Education.
